3DTrcek PC-ABS Filament

✅ Built for Real-World Loads

PC-ABS blends PC strength with ABS toughness for brackets, fixtures, housings, and tools that last.

🔥 Heat-Ready (~102–113 °C)

Withstands elevated temps (car interiors, near motors) where PLA/PETG soften or deform.

📏 Low-Warp Formulation

Reduced shrink vs. ABS; better flatness and dimensional stability on large parts with an enclosure.

✨ Smooth, Pro Finish

Clean surface straight off the bed; sands, paints, and electroplates for showroom-ready prototypes.

🧹 Excellent Layer Adhesion

Optimized interlayer bonding for tough Z-axis performance and fewer layer-split failures.

🔧 Printer-Friendly Setup

Dialed slicer profiles; prints reliably on enclosed desktops and prosumer machines.

When to choose PC-ABS over regular ABS?

Compared to standard ABS, PC-ABS delivers higher heat resistance, stronger parts, and a smoother finish — with less warping and better dimensional stability.

Regular ABS

  • 🔹 Moderate heat resistance (prone to softening in hot cars)
  • 🔹 Higher shrinkage — warps on large/flat parts
  • 🔹 Good toughness but weaker interlayer bond than PC-ABS
  • 🔹 Surface needs more finishing for presentation-grade parts

PC-ABS

  • 🔹 Higher heat tolerance (~102–113 °C application window)
  • 🔹 Stronger, tougher parts; improved impact resistance
  • 🔹 Lower warp & better dimensional accuracy (with enclosure)
  • 🔹 Smooth, paint/plate-ready finish for pro prototypes
  • 🔹 Easier than pure PC; more capable than ABS

Note: Results depend on part design and settings. For best flatness and layer bond on large parts, use an enclosure or heated chamber and follow our print guide.

Understanding Your 3DTrcek PC-ABS Filament

Key characteristics of PC-ABS — engineered for heat resistance, impact toughness, strong layer bonding, and a smooth, post-processable surface.

🧪

Core Properties

  • Mechanical: High impact toughness, strong interlayer bond, reliable Z-strength.
  • Thermal: Typical heat tolerance ~102–113 °C (part & settings dependent).
  • Dimensional: Lower warp/shrink vs. ABS for flatter, more accurate large parts (with enclosure).
  • Surface: Smooth finish that sands, paints, and electroplates cleanly.
🔧

Post-Processing

  • Finishing: Sands/machines well; wet-sand for smooth surfaces; primer + paint for cosmetic parts.
  • Plating: Compatible with electroplating workflows for metal-look prototypes.
  • Bonding: Solvent welding (ABS cements) and mechanical fastening work reliably.
📦

Storage & Drying

  • Keep Dry: Store sealed with desiccant; avoid UV exposure.
  • Drying: 65–75 °C for 4–6 h if moisture-logged; cool sealed before use.
  • Temp: Store between 0 °C and 40 °C away from heat sources.

Considerations When Printing with PC-ABS

PC-ABS is an engineering-grade blend. Review these guidelines for best strength, flatness, and surface quality.

All-Metal Hotend Recommended

Print at high temps to unlock properties: nozzle ~260–280 °C (tune per hotend). Brass nozzles are fine (no fibers).

Heated Bed & Adhesion

Use a 100–110 °C bed on textured PEI or similar. Light glue-stick/adhesive helps on large footprints.

Enclosure / Chamber

Strongly recommended for large/flat parts. A 50–70 °C chamber improves layer adhesion and reduces warp.

Cooling & Speeds

Minimal part cooling (0–20%) for strength. Moderate speeds improve interlayer bond and surface consistency.

Ventilation & Safety

Styrene-based blend can emit fumes. Print in an enclosed, ventilated setup or with filtration.

Brims & Design Tips

Use a 5–10 mm brim/raft on big parts. Add fillets/chamfers to corners; consider ribs to boost stiffness without mass.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about PC-ABS

How heat-resistant is it? +

Typical application window is about ~102–113 °C depending on part geometry and print settings. Ideal for car interiors, near motors, and other warm environments where PLA/PETG deform.

Does it warp like regular ABS? +

Less than standard ABS, especially with an enclosure. PC-ABS shows reduced shrinkage and stronger interlayer bonding. For large, flat parts, use a brim and keep the chamber warm for best results.

Do I need an enclosure or ventilation? +

An enclosure is strongly recommended for dimensional stability and layer adhesion on bigger prints. As a styrene-based blend, ensure ventilation/filtration when possible.

Is it AMS/MMU friendly? +

Yes — stable diameter and tidy winding make it suitable for Bambu AMS and other multi-spool systems. For best results with PC-ABS, print in an enclosed machine (e.g., X1/P1 with door/cover).

What surface finish can I expect? +

A smooth, professional finish that sands well. PC-ABS is paint-ready and compatible with electroplating workflows for metal-look prototypes. Minimal part cooling improves surface consistency.

Do I need a hardened nozzle? +

No — PC-ABS is not fiber-filled. A brass nozzle is fine. We recommend an all-metal hotend for sustained 260–285 °C temperatures.

Do I need to dry or special-store it? +

Store sealed with desiccant. If exposed to humidity (stringing, popping), dry at ~65 °C for 4–6 hours. Proper storage improves surface quality and layer adhesion.

Any design tips for strong parts? +

Use generous fillets/chamfers on corners, optimize wall count (3–5 walls), and align layer lines with load paths. Keep cooling low and ensure adequate per-layer time for consistent bonding.
